Description jewelry of the Victorian age was awash with symbolism and many of the pieces carried either a symbolic or sentimental message. This ring depict Hercules in one of his legendary labours. This ring is in the traditional Wedgwood style: white neo-classical figures in bas relief are depicted against the famous Wedgwood blue background. Jasperware was matte finish pottery product, often referred to it as porcelain, developed by Josiah Wedgwood and used to imitate onyx or sardonyx, it had a background color, usually blue, with the white design in relief. This exquisite Victorian example was manufactured in the style of Wedgwood during the second half of the 19th century, composed of a white on blue porcelain cameo representing the classic figure of Hercules, sustained by a silver frame and ring. Very good overall condition commensurate to use and age.
