When applied to the wound, Iodosorb cleans it by absorbing fluids, removing exudate, pus and debris and forming a gel over the wound surface. As the ointment swells, iodine is released, killing bacteria in the wound. Iodosorb Ointment Features: Effectively removes pus and debris Helps promote a clean wound-healing environment The gel formed over the wound helps to facilitate moist healing Accelerated healing rates can lead to earlier patient discharges Non-adherent to wounds, reducing trauma at dressing changes and protecting delicate epithelium. Cadexomer iodine absorbs 6 to 8 times its own weight in fluid, limiting the number of dressing changes required. Helps reduce the odour associated with heavily contaminated wounds. Iodosorb Ointment Specification: Iodosorb ointment contains 50% cadexomer iodine and 50% ointment base. Iodosorb changes colour from brown to yellow when the dressing requires changing. Iodosorb ointment Contra-Indication: Should not be used in patients with known or suspected iodine sensitivity, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis or prior history of Graves’ Disease, or in the case of non-toxic nodular goitre. Patients with a past history of any thyroid disorder are more susceptible to alterations in thyroid metabolism with chronic Iodosorb therapy. Iodine may be absorbed systemically, especially when large wounds are treated. In endemic goitre, there have been isolated reports of hyperthyroidism associated with Iodosorb. Iodine may potentially interact with lithium, sulphafurazoles and sulphonylureas; therefore, administration is not recommended. Should not be used by pregnant or lactating women. Adherent crust may form when the dressing is changed with significant frequency. Use Iodosorb Powder for very moist wounds. *This product image is only for reference.
