Description This UKAS approved laboratory test will check the level of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) in various water sources and is UKAS approved for analysis of ground and surface water*. Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD): is the amount of oxygen that is needed to oxidise the organic matter present in a quantity of water. It is widely used as a measure of the decay of organic matter in surface water as well as wastewater. COD helps to quantify the amount of oxidisable pollutants found in water. The higher the COD value, the more serious the pollution. A higher level of COD will reduce dissolved oxygen (DO) levels which can lead to anaerobic conditions, which can be harmful to aquatic life. The COD concentrations in unpolluted waters are typically 20 mg/l or less; in water with effluents it can be more than 200 mg/l; industrial wastewaters may have a COD ranging from 100mg/l up to 60000 mg/l. The collection should be booked 48 hours in advance. Each order is shipped with 1x pre-paid return packaging; if you are planning on taking samples at different times/places and returning them separately, then please place separate orders. Results: The limit of detection is 11mg/l. The report shows the test results in the appropriate measurement, like ppm, mg/l, cfu/100ml etc. Results will be sent per Email to the Email address used to place the order. Please note, that we do not provide interpretation of the test results. Expiry: Water sample to be returned within 7 weeks of order date (unless otherwise agreed). Where the return packaging includes ice-packs then these need to be frozen the day before the sample is taken and shipped to us with the sample.
